Part of being a good dad is celebrating your children. By celebrate, I mean displaying the fact that you are proud of your children and take joy in them. Show that you truly love them for who they are. Sometimes that means hanging up an award they receive or a test they aced or a card they made you. Other times, it might simply mean bragging about them. For me, it’s hanging up photos of my daughter or putting together a little video.

And it’s never too early to start celebrating them. My daughter is less than 3 months old and it’s possible she won’t see the things I hang on the wall or the videos I post on my blog. However, she just might see them when she is 16 years old looking through a photo album or diving through the digital archives of my blog (how weird will that be?). If she does, I want her to see a father who loved her dearly before she was able to do things to impress me or earn my love. And it’s just possible that she will get a sense of how valuable she really is to her parents and to the world.

To me, that’s worth more than anything.
