In my job, I’m responsible for creating promotional videos for youth events. On top of my other responsibilities, I rarely have time to put the hours upon hours into writing, shooting, editing, or creating motion graphic that the promos require. Good video = tons of time. And I refuse to create a crappy promo video. Those crappy videos often do more to hurt promotions than help. With that said, videos rarely were made for our promotions.

I’m not a huge fan of church powerpoints. In most churches, every Sunday the sermon is accompanied by a powerpoint slide show for people to follow along with or take notes from. They can be useful for keeping on the same page as the preacher, but that’s not what bothers me.

Church powerpoints are generally ugly. That’s the problem. And I understand that most churches can’t afford the resources to buy attractive backgrounds or pay someone to make it look pretty. I get that. (more…)
